Pictures from the Kazakh New Year Festivities

Our translator Svetlana (not Sveta)

Us in front of the Irtysh River. The river starts in China and runs through KAZ before ending in Russia.

Half of the river is frozen, the other half is not frozen because of the runoff water from the plant that heats water for all of Pavlodar.

Donkey rides at The Square

Traditional Kazakh Swing
Us in front of a "Yurt" style tent. A yurt is a portable, felt-covered, wood-framed dwelling structure; this was the traditional Kazakh home before all the apartments were built nearly 50 years ago.

Hello!

Zaine misses you very much (he says Mrs. Boatman is a lot "harder"....sorry Maureen)!! What a beautiful country you are experiencing, I'm loving all of the pictures.

Do they have Christian churches in Kaz? Did you attend services?

Looking forward to the next update, I check my computer every couple of hours LOL

Thanks for the comments!

Tiffany, I had a dream last night that I came to school and all the kids had their clips moved down to "Call Home". Haha. I really do miss my kidos so much! There are no Christian churches that we know of. The majority of the country is either Muslim or Russian Orthodox. We may attend a Russian Orthodox service before we leave.

Brandi, we ae trying very hard to stay warm. I have never been as cold as I was yesterday. We would have stayed at the New Year Festival much longer but I couldn't feel my fingers. It was probablly about 15 degrees! This weather is warm for the locals. Their "winter" is in the negatives.
